Navratri AI photo prompts can produce colourful festival content, but a beautiful image does not mean every instruction was followed. We gave Gemini and ChatGPT the same two briefs: a realistic orange festival portrait and a layered paper-cut illustration. Here are the actual outputs, the details to check and the prompts you can adapt for your own Navratri content.

Our examples use a fictional adult subject. They are AI illustrations, not photographs from a real event, and do not test whether either tool preserves a real person's face. Both depict a dandiya scene in a Navratri setting; Garba and dandiya are related festival traditions, not identical dance forms.

The quick answer

Choose the image style around your purpose. A realistic portrait can help visualise an outfit; a paper-cut illustration can work as a festival post or poster background. In our photo test, Gemini gave more room around the subject and visible background participants. ChatGPT gave a closer, more detailed outfit view and a cleaner courtyard background. Both showed two sticks and an orange outfit.

There is no universal winner from four samples. Generate, inspect and correct before you publish—especially hands, clothing details, event information and text.

How we compared Gemini and ChatGPT

We used the actual Gemini web app and ChatGPT image creation, checked on 10 October 2026. Gemini's visible mode was Flash High; ChatGPT's composer showed Medium. These interface labels do not independently identify the underlying image model. We did not use model names such as Nano Banana Pro without confirming the route.

Each app received the same prompt for each style. We retained the first completed output from each successful generation, without retouching the subject or choosing a hidden series of best attempts. The second style was generated in the same conversation in each app, so earlier context may influence the illustration. This is a practical app comparison, not a controlled model benchmark.

The request specified portrait 4:5, a full outfit, orange clothing, mirror-work, silver jewellery and exactly two dandiya sticks. We assessed the downloaded images for those visible requirements. Existing account access was used; no new paid plan was purchased. Free allowances and availability can differ by account.

Gemini: the skirt and two feet fit inside the frame, with more space around the dancer. Warm lights, blurred people and tents make the image feel like a busy festival ground. The hands visibly hold one stick each. The outfit is predominantly orange, with intricate multicoloured trim.

ChatGPT: the subject and outfit fill more of the frame. The courtyard has warm string lights and a sunset sky, with fewer visual distractions. Two sticks are visible, one in each hand. The outfit's decorative texture is striking, but examine the lower feet and skirt edges before selecting a crop.

Both images have plausible-looking hands at this viewing size; that is not a guarantee of perfect anatomy. Neither output is evidence that an actual event, outfit or person exists.

Generate one image, portrait 4:5. Photorealistic editorial festival photograph of a fictional adult Indian woman dancing Garba in a vibrant orange chaniya choli with traditional Gujarati mirror-work, a matching dupatta, silver jewellery, and exactly two wooden dandiya sticks, one in each hand. Natural anatomy, believable hands, joyful candid expression. Warm festive string lights in a softly blurred outdoor courtyard at dusk. Show the complete outfit from head to feet with room around the subject. Orange is the dominant clothing colour. No text, no letters, no brand logos, no collage. This is an illustrative AI-created festival scene, not documentary photography.

Test 2: a paper-cut festival illustration

Gemini: the wider scene has stylised background participants, a flowing striped dupatta, purple sky and visibly layered skirt panels. ChatGPT: the illustration keeps a closer courtyard scene with leaves, lanterns and a sunset. Both show an orange outfit and two sticks. Gemini reads more like a bold festival illustration; ChatGPT combines paper texture with finer outfit detail. These are visual observations of these samples, not evidence of a model-wide advantage.

Generate one image, portrait 4:5. Layered paper-cut editorial illustration of a fictional adult Indian woman dancing Garba in a vibrant orange chaniya choli with traditional Gujarati mirror-work, a matching dupatta, silver jewellery, and exactly two wooden dandiya sticks, one in each hand. Clean readable silhouettes, believable hands, joyful expression; textured cut-paper layers and rich orange, teal, magenta and gold accents. Stylised festive string lights in an outdoor courtyard at dusk. Show the complete outfit from head to feet with room around the subject. Orange is the dominant clothing colour. No text, no letters, no brand logos, no collage. This is an illustrative AI-created festival scene, not documentary photography.

Drik Panchang's 2026 colour calendar starts on 11 October. Its nine colour dates run through 19 October. This clothing tradition is particularly popular in Gujarat and Maharashtra; follow your community's customs rather than treating it as a compulsory dress rule. Check the dated colour calendar.

To adapt either prompt, replace the outfit colour with the day's colour. Keep the subject, framing and style requirements fixed if you want to compare results fairly. A repeated prompt does not guarantee identical faces or poses across all nine images.

Turn the image into a useful festival post

For an outfit idea, add a short description of the colour and a clear AI-generated label. For an event poster, use the illustration as a background, then add the verified venue, date, time and booking information in an editor. Do not ask the image generator to invent event details.

For a Pinterest Pin, use a tall layout with one clear headline, such as “Gemini vs ChatGPT: Navratri Photo Prompts.” Show the comparison and link to this guide. Keep the title readable on a phone, and give each image useful descriptive text. Search traffic is a possibility, not a promised result.

For Instagram, build a carousel: show the two photo outputs, the two illustrated outputs, the exact brief and the checks readers should make. A saveable colour calendar gives the reader something practical beyond an attractive image. Use our small-business content calendar to plan the sequence.

These comparisons are also useful practice for a client-facing visual service. Our guide to AI business ideas worth building in 2027 explains how product visuals, content repurposing and model evaluation can become scoped offers with quality checks.

Before you publish: five checks

  1. Count the sticks and inspect where fingers meet them.
  2. Check the face, wrists, ankles and clothing edges at full size.
  3. Confirm the correct colour, date and cultural context.
  4. Add event text yourself and proofread it; don't invent a venue or endorsement.
  5. Label the scene as AI-generated and preserve provider markings in the original.

If you edit your own portrait, upload only a photo you have permission to use. Ask for the outfit and background to change while keeping facial features consistent, then compare the result with the reference. Google's image-editing announcement describes likeness consistency improvements, but you should still inspect the output. Read Google's image-editing guidance.

The answers below follow the dated Drik Panchang colour calendar linked above. They describe this popular clothing tradition, not a mandatory dress code.

Which colour is for Navratri Day 1 in 2026?

Orange is the Day 1 colour on 11 October 2026. Our four comparison samples use orange clothing for this opening day.

Which colour is for Navratri Day 2 in 2026?

White is the Day 2 colour on 12 October 2026. Replace “orange” with “white” in the outfit description of either prompt.

Which colour is for Navratri Day 3 in 2026?

Red is the Day 3 colour on 13 October 2026. Specify a red outfit while keeping the style and framing unchanged.

Which colour is for Navratri Day 4 in 2026?

Royal Blue is the Day 4 colour on 14 October 2026. Use that exact shade name in your clothing brief.

Which colour is for Navratri Day 5 in 2026?

Yellow is the Day 5 colour on 15 October 2026. Check that the generated outfit looks yellow rather than orange or gold.

Which colour is for Navratri Day 6 in 2026?

Green is the Day 6 colour on 16 October 2026. Keep the background and outfit descriptions separate so the clothing has the requested colour.

Which colour is for Navratri Day 7 in 2026?

Grey is the Day 7 colour on 17 October 2026. Ask for grey fabric and inspect the result under the generated lighting.

Which colour is for Navratri Day 8 in 2026?

Purple is the Day 8 colour on 18 October 2026. Replace the colour in your prompt; the orange examples above do not test this variation.

Which colour is for Navratri Day 9 in 2026?

Peacock Green is the Day 9 colour on 19 October 2026. Specify the blue-green shade clearly and check the final outfit before posting.

When does Shardiya Navratri start in 2026?

The nine-day colour calendar starts on 11 October 2026 and runs through 19 October. Check your local calendar for rituals and event timings.

How do I find today's Navratri colour?

Match the current date to the 2026 table above. For example, 11 October is Orange and 12 October is White. This dated guide does not automatically update for another year.

How do I create a Navratri AI photo in Gemini or ChatGPT?

Open the image-generation feature available to your account. Copy either tested prompt, set the outfit colour and generate the image. Inspect hands, sticks, clothing and framing before exporting. The photo prompt creates a fictional person unless you deliberately provide a permitted reference image.

What should a good Garba or dandiya AI photo prompt include?

Describe the subject, outfit, colour, dance setting, lighting, image style and framing. For dandiya, specify two sticks and check both hands. For a Garba-only scene, remove the stick requirement and describe a Garba circle instead; that variation was not tested here.

Which tool is better for Navratri AI photos: Gemini or ChatGPT?

Our samples show different strengths in framing and visual detail. Both followed the major photo requirements. These four outputs are too small a test to establish a universal winner; use the style and checks that fit your brief.

Can these prompts keep my face exactly the same?

These tests use a fictional subject and do not measure face preservation. For your own portrait, provide a reference and inspect the result. Do not assume exact identity preservation.

Can I make all nine Navratri colour images with one prompt?

You can replace the colour and generate each day separately, but identity and pose may change. Check every image and verify the year's calendar before posting.

Is Garba the same as dandiya?

They are distinct traditions commonly associated with Navratri celebrations. Our stick-based examples illustrate dandiya; the article uses the common Garba-photo search phrase while identifying what the images actually depict.

Are these tools completely free?

Availability, generation limits and account access vary. We did not buy a plan for this test, but an existing subscription does not prove everyone receives the same features for free.

How do I make a Navratri poster without incorrect AI text?

Generate the visual background first, then add your verified venue, date, time and booking details in Canva or another editor. Proofread the text separately and label the illustrative scene as AI-generated.

What image size should I use for Instagram or Pinterest?

Plan a 4:5 image for an Instagram portrait feed post, 9:16 for a Story or Reel, and 2:3 for a standard Pinterest Pin. Preview the crop and text on a phone; resizing alone does not guarantee that the full outfit stays visible.
